TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE &

HEALTHY ECOSYSTEMS SUMMIT

2012 August  29th-31st, Wednesday-Friday

In the Scenic Columbia River Gorge

At Skamania Lodge

This summit is designed to inspire tribal staff, consultants, administrators and their community to look to indigenous traditional knowledge to guide our decisions as we protect,
enhance and restore our lands.

The conference will be held in one of the most diverse ecosystems in our region at the crossroads of forest, sea, river, mountain and prairie, in a place where tribes have gathered from throughout the region each summer for millennium.

We invite all who are involved with resource management, community planning, housing, landscapes and on-the-ground projects who want to gain and share information about traditional resource management, plant and animal resource uses, restoration, landscape and garden design and installation, and traditional foods, medicines and materials from these natural resources.

Sessions will include dozens of presentations, panels, hands-on workshops and field trips with a focus on connecting traditional knowledge with our efforts to protect and restore our lands today; cultural restoration strategies and practices, natural areas and cultural sites.  Details to follow.

Call for Presenters:  We are currently outreaching and scheduling speakers, presenters, workshop and field trip leaders for this conference. We are also providing a space for people with traditional knowledge who may not want to do a formal presentation, but would grace us with their presence in our Wisdom Keeper Circles. Contact Heidi Bohan for more information; or to receive our ‘Call for Presenters’ form.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Daniel Wildcat

Author of Red Alert: Saving the Planet through Indigenous Knowledge

In his book Dr. Wildcat states that what the world needs today is a good dose of Indigenous Realism. Reconnecting our human cultures in very practical ways to the balance of nature beyond our human selves is critical to restoring the
diversity of life on this beautiful blue-green planet.
